we-ar gastronome

an exhibit curated for the university of gastronomic sciences ventennale.

built upon a collaborative curatorial project, this collection of food t-shirts is part of we-ar gastronome, a curated exhibit at the pollenzo food lab in pollenzo as part of the 20th year anniversary of the university of gastronomic sciences. it had started out as a side project of interest, looking at how personal stories and memories are tied to material representations of foods and food cultures. this manifested through laundry - i had found i was wearing and folding t-shirts, a normal clothing choice, but mine were heavily doused with food-related t-shirts. how had i come to own so many? and why? what was it about t-shirts versus magnets, stickers, hats, or other souvenirs?

this project, punnily titled “we-ar gastronome,” explores this. through collaborations and collective submissions as well as pulling from my personal collection, the selected and interpreted t-shirts share diverse stories and memories. not only do we “wear” our gastronomic affiliations, but “we-ar[e]” vehicles for these identities when we venture out into the public realm, dressed in our food t-shirts.
